- t lavitz began his intensive study of classical and jazz piano at age seven. t has always had a lifelong love of rock music and at twenty-two, he was asked to join the "rock, jazz, and everything else" instrumental band the dixie dregs until the band split in 1983, by which time t had been voted "best new talent" in keyboard magazine's readers poll and the band had garnered four grammy nominations. since then, t has released eight albums as a leader, consisting mostly of his own compositions.
Eventually, the "Dregs" garnered 2 more Grammy nods making it a total of 6. T says" I like to think of us as the Susan Luccis of music" but then she had to spoil it all and win whatever category she lives in...Emmies?
The latest CD "School of the Arts" features Dave Weckl, John Patitucci, Frank Gambale, Steve Morse and Jerry Goodman, and it peaked around 4/16/08 at #2 on XM Radio's Airplay chart...so there! Put that in your pipe and...never mind....so there! Put that in your CD player and listen to it!
Also,T Lavitz is the "Artistic Director" for the Rock Workshop at the summer 5 week at the Berklee College of Music.
